Lesmahagow Parsh Registers

Click on maps to enlarge. The bottom map shows the location of Crossford and Hazelbank in relation to Glasgow. And the top map shows the two little communities in the north-eastern part of the Parish of Lesmahagow.

Baptism of Agnes, second daughter of Robert and Sarah Gavin in 1829 in Hazzelbank. It reads : "Hazzlebank - Robert Givan and Sarah Millar had a daughter born 29th Feb baptized 8th March - J.H. - Agnes Givan" J.H = clergyman's initials.

Above: Baptism of Robert, the eldest son of Robert and Sarah born in Crossford in 1834.
It reads " Crossford - Robert Given and Sarah Miller had a son born 22 March baptized the 10th May. J.H. - Robert Given."

The 1840 burial below is probably for this same child, as the registers usually note if a child was still-born as opposed to dying as a child. The record reads: " April 7 - A child of Robert Given's - Crossford."
