(This would seem to be two sons of Peter and Elizabeth McPhailwho went to Manitoba first. They are listed as 'farmers' as opposed to 'labourers' ;therefore, they may have located their own farm lots and were working their land but living with relatives. Their parents followed)Peter and Elizabeth went to Manitoba sometime after 1891 and Peter died
there in Elton in 1894 at the age of 52.
R.M. Elton, ManitobaThe R.M. (rural municipality) of Elton is situated to the north of the Trans-Canada Highway and Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. Elton was incorporated in 1883 with its first elected officials taking office in 1884.
The R.M. was settled between 1879 to 1900, with large numbers of pioneers and homesteaders coming from eastern Canada, Ukraine, Poland and Germany. In 1936, Elton built its first municipal office in the community of Forrest.
In addition, the R.M. is home to residents in the communities of Justice and Douglas. Elton has been home to families for generations with many of the resident families being descendants of original pioneers and owners of Century farms. Elton has had a varied history of commerce over the years, but has always been predominately an agricultural area.
