The map and the index do not match up. It is assumed that the fathers settled the land and put their sons' names on plots as they became of age.
There is a Robert Gavin in the bottom left of the map who doesn't appear in the index; he might be no relation to our Gavins, but could very well be Robert, the eldest son of Matthew Gavin. This Robert appears in the 1881 census in Lot 5. He was married to Sarah, the eldest daughter of Robert H. Horn.
