Death of Respected CitizenAfter a lingering illness of several months, William Gavin passed to the life beyond last Friday afternoon. Death had been expected for some time, and all the members of his family were present at the bed-side, except his son George, who was in Seattle.
William Gavin was born October 22, 1857, at Dalhousie, Ontario, and when a child, moved with his parents to Prince Edward Island. At the age of 21, he was (joined) in marriage to Miss Agnes Horn, eight children all of whom survive being born to this union. In 1881 he took up his residence in North Dakota living there until 1901, when with his family he came to Cashmere.
Mr. Gavin was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father. He lived a quiet and unassuming life and by his sober and industrious habits gained the friendship and respect of everyone. He leaves a devoted wife, five sons, James, Robert, William, George and Garfield and three daughters, Matilda, Sarah and Ethel.
The funeral services occurred Saturday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, Rev. I.T. Reab officiating and paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. The burial was in the Cashmere Cemetery, a large concourse of friends and neighbors paying their last respects at the grave.
