It seems that Robert Downie Horn (without Martha and family) went to Prince Edward Island around the time that his brother Thomas and a man who might be a cousin, Robert Houstin Horn, went to PEI. This was within a year after Matthew Gavin, the brother of the Horn wives, left Lanark County, Ontario.
The evidence for this is that in the diary of a James Reid from Dalhousie Township, the entry for June 3rd, 1864 states, "In PEI - saw Robert Horn and David McIntosh and William Henry". (Researched by T. & L. Horne at Archives - Drummond Centre, Perth, Ontario).
Martha Horn's father died in 1873, about ten years after Robert left, but her mother lived until 1890. Her sister, Janet, was married to her brother-in-law, James Horn who died in 1879. It is easy to see that there was a lot to keep Martha in Lanark County. Sadly, their son John died in 1865 at about 16 years old as a result of an accident with a horse. This would probably have sealed the fate of an already troubled marriage.
