John & Ida (Clayton) Gavin

While searching ancestry.com tonight, I found the following marriage which means that Matthew and Marion Gavin had seven sons, not six. John Gavin was born about 1864 and was the fifth son and eighth child.

John Gavin, 29, b. Prince Edward Island (about 1864)
Residence - **Norman
son of Matthew and Marion Gavin
Married April 15, 1893, Rainy River District, Ontario
= Ida Clayton, b. about 1870, Detroit, Michigan
daugher of Swanson and Hannah Clayton
Married by - Rev. Robert Ga...
Witnesses - Mr. Ga.... of Rat Portage, W.J. Rome or Rone

(**The name, "Kenora," was coined by combining the first two letters of Keewatin, Norman (two nearby communities) and Rat Portage.-Wikepedia)

John does not appear in the 1881 census with the rest of his siblings in Prince Edward Island. Matthew, his father is also absent in 1881. John would have been about 17 years old and may have been with his father in North Dakota.

I have been unable to find John and Ida in any census in
Canada or the USA, however, they were living in Rainy River,
Ontario for the birth of:

16 August, 1899 - Hazel Gavin, Father -John Gavin, Mother - Ida Clason(sic)

and then in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan when two children were born:

April 30, 1903 - Mahallia Gavin, dau of John Gavin and Ida Clayton
May 16, 1905 - John Gavin, son of John Gavin and Ida Clayton

Yellow Grass is on the CPR line 30 km from Weyburn (Hwy 39 / 621).

A Mahallia Gavin married Gilbert Leslie Taylor in Vancouver
July 25, 1921. To date I have found no other records related to these Gavins.
