Robert Houstin Horn and Sarah Miller Gavin before 1892Contributed by E.C. of PEI
Sarah Miller Gavin was the fourth child and third daughter of Robert Gavin and Sarah Miller. She was reportedly born January 21, 1831 in Lesmahagow (Parish), Lanarkshire, Scotland. In 1841, she is 9 years old and living with her family in Crossford, Lesmahagow, Scotland.
Sarah married Robert Houstin Horn September 9, 1853 in Dalhousie Township, Lanark County, Ontario. Robert was the son of George Horn and Mary Barrie who were married December 21, 1827 as recorded in Glasgow parish registers, and the family appears in the 1841 Census living on Hunter Street, St. John's, Glasgow (Lanarkshire). George and Mary were both 35, Robert H. was 10, and a younger brother, George, was 3. George Senior was a police officer.
By 1851, the family appears in the census for Lanark County, Ontario:

Robert Houstin Horn (son of George Horn) and Thomas Horn (son of James Horn) both married daughters of Robert Gavin and Sarah Miller. These two couples moved to PEI in the 1860's. It is possible that George Horn was a younger brother of James Horn (both from Glasgow) making the two men cousins; however, we have no proof of this. It is also possible that the only connection between the two men was marrying the Gavin sisters.
Robert and Sarah appear in the 1861 census for Dalhousie Township, Lanark County not far from Sarah's parents. I have not found George Horn Sr. or his son, George in the 1861 census.

I have not found a 1871 census for the Robert Houstin Horn family in Prince Edward Island; however, the Meachams Historical Atlas of PEI records their date of settlement on Lot 5 in the Bloomfield area as -
'Lot 5-Horne, Rob't H.-O'Halloran Rd, Farmer, Bloomfield, b.Scot, Settled 1863
Lot 5-Horne, George,-O'Halloran Rd, Farmer, Bloomfield, b. PEI, Settled 1864'
The second entry for George Horne on the same road and just a year later makes one wonder if the two brothers came together, except that Robert's brother was born in Scotland.
There is a widowed George Horn, 68 years old, living in Lanark North, Ontario in the 1871 census. He is with an Irish couple, Abraham and Letitia Code and their large family. This might be Robert H. Horn's father.
