Mary Gavin was the sixth daughter and ninth surviving child of Robert Gavin and Margaret Horn. She was born at Purbrook on August 5th, 1886.In the 1901 Census she is shown with her parents in Purbrook at 14 years old.
She married Herbert Shire April 24th, 1907 in Draper Township. Herb was born November 20, 1873 in Draper Township but lived at Price's Corners until he was 16.

Mary Gavin Shire died January 26th, 1959. Herbert died February 18, 1961 at 87 years of age. Both are buried in the St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery in Bracebridge.
Their daughter, Hannah, was married to a Mr. Hutchinson, and their eldest daughter, Elsie, was married to Aubrey Lee. In March of 1982, their son Charles and his son Lorne, died tragically in a house fire in Bracebridge.
