What a difference a decade makes!

The 1841 census was taken in Scotland on June 1st. We found
Robert and Sarah Govan and six children between the ages of
18 years and 4 months living in Crossford, a small rural com-
munity south of Glasgow. Their sixth daughter, Elizabeth, was
born in Dalhousie Township, Lanark County, Upper Canada
(Ontario) in October of 1843. Therefore, the Robert Govan
family emigrated from Scotland sometime between June, 1841
and October 1843.

The 1851 Canadian census was taken January 12, 1852. Below
is a chronology of events which took place in the decade after
the family arrived in Lanark County -

& Sarah
